Massage Grants Benefit Communities
Since 1996, the Massage Therapy Foundation has awarded grants to community-service projects that provide massage therapy services. The 2006 foundation-grant recipients are midway through their projects.
Robert Saper, from Boston Medical Center. His project, “Therapeutic Massage for Cancer Patients at Boston Medical Center,” was awarded $5,000.
Nancy Keeney Smith, from the Florida School of Massage in Gainesville, was awarded $4,998 for her project, “Therapeutic Massage for Pediatric Burn Survivors.” (Read more about Keeney Smith’s work in the article “Happy Plus,” in the March issue.)
Shawnee Smith, from The Heart Touch Project based in Santa Monica, California, was awarded $5,000 for her “Heart Touch Outreach Program.”
Dein Vindigni, from RMIT University in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, was awarded $5,000 for “The Broader Benefits of Tactile Therapies Beyond Managing Pain and Disability.”
In addition to these community-service grants, the following research grant was awarded, sponsored in part by BIOTONE:
David M. Stenhorn, M.D., from Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago, was awarded $19,997 for his study, “Evaluation of the Effects of Five-Minute Foot Massages on Physiological Measures.” |
