Massage Magazine: Issue 86, July/August '00: Seeing Through the BodySeeing Through the Body
By Sue Painter, L.M.T.

For Sue Painter, L.M.T., author of "Seeing Through the Body," attending cadaver lab has helped her to learn to see human anatomy in 3-D but also to appreciate the incredible complexity and diversity of form contained within the human body. Painter describes possible concerns therapists might experience when considering taking dissection workshop. Painter quotes a therapist as saying, "There is a certain amount of apprehension...I was not sure how I would react to having a dead body, a real person, right in front of me. I'd heard that the smell could be strong. But I talked to others who had done cadaver work and decided the opportunity was worth trying it." These concerns are addressed further in a sidebar entitled "7 Suggestions for Making the Most of a Dissection Workshop." Painter describes how attending a dissection workshop has improved her practice and her appreciation of the human body.
