Step Right Up and Save Your Hands: Compressive Deep Tissue Massage Puts Feet in the Forefrontby John Harris, Matt Lynch and Fred Kenyon

John Harris, Matt Lynch and Fred Kenyon all experienced the same problem many therapists have - tired and sore hands, thumbs and spirits. In this article they discuss the development and use of Compressive Deep Tissue massage (CDT).

All three saw the potential benefits to clients and their own well-being by developing a modality that uses the feet instead of the hands. The authors describe CDT as “grounded in Western science” and after three years of research have found it to be “ideal for deep-tissue massage, trigger-point therapy, and as a warm-up for sports and Swedish massage.” The authors describe the technique, what type of client might best benefit from it and general suggestions for those therapists beginning to practice CDT.
