We Asked: How often do you receive bodywork? What type(s) do you receive, and why?

Here is what you told us...

There are three of us in this office and we decided four years ago to give each other a massage every week. We trade off partners each time so each week we get a massage from a different person. This has been a great asset to our business as well as to our bodies. We learn from each other as well as feeling much better. Our group is much tighter because of it and we get along much better.

I get bodywork because I love it, because it's the best thing I can do for myself to rejuvenate myself. Receiving massage also helps me give a better massage. On average, I receive bodywork about once a month. I get an eclectic blend of techniques, although my favorite is acupressure because I like deep work.

I schedule between three and four sessions a month for myself. They range in variety from deep-tissue massage to alleviate knots, Swedish massage to connect my mind and body, lymphatic drainage for cleansing and SOMA tune-ups for re-balancing. I began my bodywork journey 14 years ago, which among other things led me to the profession. Bodywork has become part of who I am, rejuvenating me, nurturing me and providing relaxation in my busy life. I'm also a firm believer that if I didn't receive regular massage, telling my clients about the benefits wouldn't have the ring of truth.

I exchange with another therapist every Tuesday. One week I work on her for two hours, and the next week she works on me for two hours. We do deep-tissue work and practice new things we learn on each other. It is also an opportunity to experiment with [techniques] we read about. As for why, I don't understand how anyone endures the aging process without it.

I receive craniosacral bodywork about twice a month. It helps my body stay aligned and my emotions calm. I also try to get a Swedish/deep-tissue session at least once a month. Every once in a while I go to Chinatown and after shopping I treat myself to Tuina or reflexology. It feels great to be able to receive touch, to be 'in' my body. I love to feel the wonderful calmness that follows the session and that also makes me love and respect what I do: massage therapy.
