The Massage Therapy Foundation (MTF) has announced the winners of its 2013 Student Practitioner Case Report Contest. This year, the grand-prize Gold Award has been awarded to Jennifer Nielson from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Her winning case report was titled, “Therapeutic Massage in Treatment of a Chronic Hyperventilator with Irritable Bowel Syndrome.”
As the first place winner, Nielson will receive a $2,500 cash award, contingent upon undergoing the peer-review process with the International Journal of Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (IJTMB) or another peer-reviewed scholarly journal. Additionally, she will be invited to present her report at the American Massage Therapy Association national meeting that takes place in September 2014.
Morag Wehrle from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, received the Silver Award. Her case report was titled “Manual Lymph Drainage and Therapeutic Massage in Treatment of a Professional Violinist.” Wehrle will receive a $2,000 cash prize contingent upon undergoing the peer-review process with the IJTMB or another peer-reviewed scholarly journal.
Linda Ching from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, received the Bronze Award. Her case report was titled “The Effects of Massage Therapy on Piriformis Syndrome.” Ching will also be awarded a $1,500 cash prize cash prize contingent upon undergoing the peer-review process with the IJTMB or another peer-reviewed scholarly journal.
An Honorable Mention award was given to Meghan Reid from Osoyoos, British Columbia, Canada, for her case report titled “The Effects of Massage Therapy on Pain Associated with Spinal Cord Injury: A Full Body Approach.”

The foundation holds annual case report contests for students and practitioners because it provides an opportunity for massage therapists and bodywork professionals to deliver evidence-informed massage information to the public.
