Feel alone? Pick up the phone
With an MBA in finance and
12 years of experience working in the corporate world, it might
seem that opening a massage practice would be a snap for Christina
Bara. Yet when she graduated from the Boulder College of Massage
Therapy in 1996, Bara struggled to get her practice off the ground.
Now, with 10 years of successful massage practice under her belt,
she's helping other therapists succeed too.
Bara developed telephone classes
and roundtables to connect therapists to each other, and to the
expertise of a certified coach who leads each session. Classes
are in lecture format, with time for questions at the end. Roundtables
are designed to give each individual time to explore his or her
issues, concerns and question; and receive feedback, ideas and
motivation from the group as well as direction from the coach.
"So often we feel like
we're in a vacuum," Bara says of the massage profession.
"So often our work is isolated work, even though we love
being with people.
"One of the things
I’m trying to develop with this is that massage therapists
feel like they have community, like they can jump on the phone
and connect with massage therapists around the country who have
the same issues with them and the same fears, and they can feel
not so all alone."
Classes cost $20 for 60-75 minutes.
Subjects that have been covered in past tele-classes include:
Legal Issues for Bodyworkers to Consider; Get Clients NOW!; and
Money's Not The Magic, It's The Mirror: Financial Integrity From
The Inside Out.
