AMTA officers elected

The American Massage Therapy Association has announced the results of its 2005 national election, conducted via mail among its professional members.

Leena Guptha, of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, is president-elect. Her term was scheduled to begin on March 1, 2006, and last until March 1, 2007, when she will assume the position of national president.

Guptha has been a massage therapist for 15 years. She has served as AMTA national vice president, on the national government-relations committee, in the national law-and-legislation assistance program, and as Illinois chapter president.

M.K. Brennan of Charlotte, North Carolina, was re-elected as a vice president, while William J. Greenberg of Fairfield, Connecticut, was elected to the other open vice president position. Both will serve two-year terms beginning March 1.

Brennan has been a massage therapist for 15 years. She has served as AMTA national finance committee chair, national government-relations chair, and North Carolina chapter president. Greenberg has been a massage therapist for 20 years and has served as a member at large on the national board of directors and as Connecticut chapter president.

The American Massage Therapy Association is a nonprofit association with more than 54,000 members. A total of 4,066 valid ballots were received for the national board election, representing 11.2 percent of professional members.
