Evidence for CFS discovered

Researchers at Georgetown University Medical Center have discovered physical evidence for chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). The study, published in the November issue of the online BMC Neurology Journal (www.biomedcentral.com/bmcneurol), found that in CFS patients, a set of proteins is present in the spinal cord fluid that is not found in healthy people.

CFS is a complex of symptoms without objective markers or known pathophysiology. The proteins detected in this study may shed light on the causes of CFS, and may prove to be diagnostic indicators of the syndrome.

This study’s findings may also provide initial objective evidence for the legitimacy of CFS as a distinct neurological disease.
