The sound of healing?

Studies sponsored by a company that produces healing-sound products indicate that pain, stiffness and fatigue associated with fibromyalgia may be ameliorated through low-frequency sound.

Eighty-nine percent of participants in a study conducted by the Sound Health Research Institute reported at least a 50-percent reduction in fibromyalgia pain intensity after receiving specific frequencies of sound. Some reported 100-percent, temporary pain relief during sound presentation.

The frequency-based sound presentation needed to be repeated every four to five hours to maintain efficacy, according to a company press release. As a result of the requirement for repeated sound presentation, a portable tone generator was programmed for autonomous repetitions of sound outside the lab setting.
