Steiner buys Utah College
Steiner Leisure Limited has agreed to purchase
the assets of Utah College of Massage Therapy, Inc. (UCMT), which
operates a post-secondary massage school with seven campuses located
in Utah, Colorado, Arizona and Nevada. UCMT had revenues in 2004
of approximately $28 million, according to a Steiner press release.
“The acquisition of UCMT, a sizable competitor,
would significantly expand Steiner’s national presence in
the post-secondary massage therapy school market,” said Leonard
Fluxman, Steiner’s president and CEO. “The combination
of these two premier brands would allow [Steiner] to become a leading
provider of graduates into the growing spa market, which demands
the highest quality spa professionals.”
UCMT’s founder, Norm Cohn, will join Steiner’s
management team.
Steiner Leisure Limited is headquartered in the
Bahamas and is a worldwide provider of spa services. The company’s
operations include spas and salons on 120 cruise ships, and in 56
resort spas and two luxury day spas.
In addition to UCMT, Steiner Leisure also owns
and operates three post-secondary schools offering degree- and non-degree-programs
in massage therapy and skin-care, comprising seven campuses, located
in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Sarasota, Florida; Baltimore,
Maryland; York, Pennsylvania; and Charlottesville, Virginia.
