Hygenic Corp. Aquires Performance Health

The Hygenic Corporation, a manufacturer and marketer of brands including Thera-Band, Dyna-Band, Parabath and Hygenic, announced in late May its acquisition of Performance Health, Inc., developer and marketer of the Biofreeze brand of topical analgesics and Prossage brand of warming massage ointment.

"We are excited about this business combination," stated Chris Cox, Perry Isenberg and Craig Cox, owners of Performance Health, Inc., in a joint company statement, "and believe it offers the additional scale and resources to accelerate the development of new products and continue to serve the health-care community to which we've been committed since the inception of [Performance Health].”

The two companies market to “hands-on health care professionals,” including massage therapists, chiropractors, physical therapists and athletic trainers.

Hygenic was founded in 1930 and is headquartered in Akron, Ohio. Performance Health was founded in 1990 and is headquartered in Export, Pennsylvania.

According to Hygenic spokesperson Mark Anderson, Isenberg and Craig and Chris Cox will all be retained in managerial positions with Performance Health.

Earl DeCarli, president and CEO of Hygenic, said, "We are committed to serving health-care and wellness practitioners by expanding our product offering in strategically important categories such as topical analgesics for pain management and total wellness.
