AMTA Names Teacher of the Year

The American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) has named massage-therapy educator Laurie Craig the 2007 Jerome Perlinski Teacher of the Year.

Craig teaches at the Atlanta School of Massage in Atlanta, Georgia, and authored an anatomy and physiology guide for the school. She was honored for the guide, as well as "high ethical standards and her innovative teaching methods," according to a school press release.

Jerome Perlinski was not a massage therapist, but he was a strong advocate of massage therapy and used his expertise as an educator to help raise training standards, improve teaching methods, and educate massage practitioners about the importance of ethical and professional behavior, the press release stated.

The award will be presented at the AMTA National Convention in Cincinnati in September.
