Massage Bill Introduced in Michigan
On Sept. 19 a bill intended to legislate massage in the state of Michigan was introduced by Sen. Gilda Jacobs. If passed into law, it will require licensure and regulation of the state's massage therapists.
The bill, SB 788, would create a Michigan Board of Massage Therapy "to establish licensure and competence assessment requirements for the practice of massage therapy, and would require 500 hours of training" from an approved school, according to a statement on Sen. Jacobs' Web site.
It specifically exempts practitioners of Feldenkrais, Trager Work, polarity therapy, reflexology, Rolfing and shiatsu.
The bill was referred to the Senate Economic Development and Regulatory Reform Committee on Sept. 19. |
