Montgomery, New York – Jan. 24, 2012 --- The Institute for Integrative Healthcare Studies (IIHS), approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) as a continuing education approved provider (#049478-00) since 1996, has announced it was the first independent home-study continuing education provider to become an approved provider (#0012) by the New York State Board of Massage.

Beginning January 2012, the New York State Education Department's State Board for Massage Therapy requires the completion of 36 continuing education hours every three years through an approved sponsor of continuing education. All 36 of these hours may be earned through home-study courses as defined by the board.

Cheryl Baisley, programming director at IIHS, says, "The options for New York state massage therapists to complete their continuing education hours vary. However, one opportunity is through a sponsor of continuing education approved by the state education department, like IIHS. Our extensive application was the first one approved for an organization that's strictly a continuing education provider. While some CE providers will be utilizing the NCBTMB's approved providership, we felt it was best to gain our own New York State providership and be certain we can provide New York LMTs with our exceptional service and prompt course

processing."

Baisley urges all New York LMTs to learn what course topics are acceptable for continuing education, because courses related to appearance enhancement practices as defined by the board, courses on animal massage, aromatherapy courses, marketing or business courses, or any courses in reiki, Feldenkrais Method or the Alexander Technique, are not recognized for New York massage license renewal.

To learn what course topics are acceptable for continuing education in New York, visit IIHS's New York Massage Therapy Continuing Education Requirements page.

To find out more information about IIHS's 125+ courses, more than 45 of which are available completely online, visit www.homestudycredits.org or call (800) 364-5722.
