Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease caused by damage to the myelin sheath, the protective covering that surrounds nerve cells, according to the National Center for Biotechnology Information. When the nerve covering is damaged, nerve signals slow down or stop. Symptoms include loss of balance, numbness, tremor and muscle spasms.
Multiple sclerosis affects more than 350,000 people in the U.S.
Many patients with multiple sclerosis use complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), including massage therapy, acupuncture and osteopathy.
Of the 111 patients who participated in this survey, 64 (57.7 percent) used such CAM therapies as acupuncture,
"Physicians and other health care professionals must be aware of the extensive use of alternative modalities among these patients, and these professionals must provide guidance and monitoring in use of these therapies to improve outcomes," the investigators noted.
The study was conducted by investigators at the Department of Neurology, Drexel University College of Medicine, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was published in the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association.

I have been working with MS patients for years and have developed a methodology that extends range of motion even in severe MS patients. I would like to find other therapists in the Houston area who would be willing to learn this therapy for research purposes. Currently I am working on another research project (carpal tunnel) but my intent is to make the technique that has shown to be effective with MS and Cerebral Palsy my next project. Please contact me if you have an interest.

You say MS is an autoimmune disease. You state it as a fact. It is NOT a fact! Autoimmune is a hypothesis and has been nothing more than a hypothesis for decades. And as a hypothesis, it gets less and less believable by the day which might be a part of why more and more people are relying on CAM. Personally, I have had better results using natural detoxifiers myself while I save up for a venoplasty to open clogged or twisted veins (CCSVI). Neither is a cure but both do alleviate a good many of the nastier symptoms in a great many people.
