Boulder College Purchases its Campus

The Boulder College of Massage Therapy (BCMT) announced in October the purchase of its campus, the college building and surrounding land, in Boulder, Colorado. The purchase makes BCMT the owner of a 31,000 square foot, state-of-the-art massage-therapy training facility.

"This purchase is a testament to BCMT’s determination to continue as an independent, not-for-profit massage college. For the students, this purchase means longevity, security and support throughout their education as current and future massage therapists of the world," stated a college press release.

BCMT's lease was scheduled to terminate at the end of June 2007. There were three options for the college: renegotiate the lease, move to another building, or purchase the building.

“The City of Boulder and Boulder County were instrumental in bringing this idea to fruition," said BCMT President Jan Combs. "The fact that we are a 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation allowed the county to issue tax-exempt bonds on our behalf. For the buyer of the bonds, that means that their earnings are tax exempt from federal and state income taxes. In essence, this is a win-win situation for everyone."

The college was founded in 1975. Its programs include a 1,000-hour massage-therapy certification, associate of occupational studies degree in massage therapy, continuing education and community classes.
