AFMTE logoFORT PIERCE, Fla. — The Alliance for Massage Therapy Education (AFMTE) is excited to announce that Penny Shumaker Jeffrey has filled a vacancy on the board of directors and will serve as membership liaison. She is a North Carolina licensed massage and bodywork therapist and a graduate of the Body Therapy Institute. She holds a master’s degree in nutrition and a doctorate in science education from North Carolina State University. Her graduate research focused on how adult food behavior and choices are influenced by mass media sources such as print and television. She has taught continuing education, community college and university-level courses in both nutrition and science education.

“We feel very pleased to have someone as qualified and experienced as Dr. Jeffrey on our board who is so well-versed in membership development,” said Pete Whitridge, president of the AFMTE. Jeffrey will be focusing her efforts on increasing the awareness, understanding and importance of being a member of the AFMTE.
