PUNTA GORDA, Belize – May 18, 2009 – Machaca Hill Rainforest Canopy Lodge recently completed the new Jabulani Spa. Jabulani, which means “joy” in the South African Zulu language, was designed with two goals in mind – to further provide guests with luxurious services in a tranquil environment and to create a one-of-a-kind treatment space using renewable, natural materials. As part of a grand-opening special, travelers can take advantage of a complementary spa treatment through the end of the year.
Each spa service at Jabulani incorporates natural Belizean ingredients including Maya Moon Oil, which, after being prayed over, is gathered under a full moon. Maya Moon Oil is traditionally used as a healing oil for hair and skin or to enhance massages. Machaca’s in-house spa therapist uses the local oil in her massages and also offers regionally inspired aromatherapies along with yoga, meditation and other wellness treatments. Two of the most popular massage services are a 30-minute back and neck massage for $45 and a 90-minute aromatherapy massage for $125.
Whichever treatments travelers indulge in, Jabulani’s hand-carved wooden water feature and rock fountain help bestow a sense of tranquility throughout the spa. The structure, which was inspired by traditional Maya homes, features Belizean hardwoods harvested from hurricane-damaged trees and sustainable wood farms. A covered outdoor terrace leads to a spacious treatment area with floor-to-ceiling glass walls offering an unrestricted view of the rainforest canopy. The spa’s interior walls are adorned with approximately 70,000 natural stones, which reflect the surrounding environment and complement the oversized waterfall shower.
To receive the complimentary 45-minute spa treatment, (one per guest, per stay), guests must travel to Machaca Hill by December 2009. All-inclusive nightly rates at Machaca Hill start at $650 per person.
