Florida Senate Bill 584, which would have provided for temporary permits to allow massage school graduates to practice massage without licensure, has died in the state’s House.

The bill received 19 yeas and 18 nays, but died in messages.

The Florida State Massage Therapy Association (FSMTA) had issued several calls to action, encouraging its members and other concerned massage therapists to contact their state legislators.

In announcing the bill’s death on Saturday, the FSMTA’s Executive Director Lynn Hupp wrote on the group’s Facebook wall, “THANK YOU to those who called, emailed and otherwise contacted your legislators…your work was not in vain! FSMTA appreciates YOU!”
