Massage Envy is moving northward, to Canada, the company announced recently.

Massage Envy ( is a franchise massage business, and the largest such business in the U.S. There are approximately 670 Massage Envy and Massage Envy Spa locations nationwide, according to a company press release. The company currently ranks 64th overall (up from 88th last year) on Entrepreneur magazine’s 2011 Franchise 500 list and 49th in the fastest-growing franchise category.

Massage Envy is the world’s largest employer of massage therapists, with more than 16,000 therapists providing more than 250,000 massages every week.

In January 2010, Massage Envy was acquired by Sentinel Capital Partners, which also owns businesses including Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and Church’s Chicken.

“Our 29 percent growth in membership last year proved that consumers are seeking to maintain a balanced lifestyle focused on wellness,” said Massage Envy CEO David Humphrey. “With the help of qualified area representatives, we plan to develop locations throughout Canada.”
