Massage has been shown to lower blood pressure, and a new compilation of research points out other factors that lower – and raise – blood pressure.

According to research compiled by the American Society of Hypertension:

• Using a cell phone causes a significant rise in blood pressure;

• A study on the effects of yoga on hypertension concluded that yoga can significantly lower blood pressure;

• Hypertensive individuals prefer more salt in their food than do normotensive individuals; and

• A primary care physician’s healthy lifestyle behaviors may be linked to his or her recommendations for hypertension prevention.

The American Society of Hypertension Inc. is the largest U.S. professional organization of scientific investigators and health care professionals committed to eliminating hypertension and its consequences.
