To complement the MASSAGE Magazine article, “Self-Care Techniques,” from Upledger Institute instructors, in the October 2010 issue. Article summary: We asked some of The Upledger Institute’s CranioSacral Therapy instructors about the self-help techniques they use to take care of themselves.

“Another technique that I use for self care is to drop into a neutral place in myself before putting my hands on the person I am treating,” noted Suzanne Scurlock-Durana, an Upledger Institute CranioSacral Therapy instructor and developer of the Healing From the Core curriculum. “Since my life is so busy, this process of remembering to take a long, deep breath, feeling my feet on the floor and resting back is so therapeutic.

“It turns on my ‘receive’ receptors, so that if I am depleted I can begin to refill, and if I am running a little out in front of myself, I can drop back and relax. It is such a simple thing, yet it has such a rejuvenating effect for me.”
