Muscle Energy and Functional Technique for the Cervical Spine

October 15, 2016

Saturday, October 15, 2016

9am to 6pm

8 CE hours

with Joe Belanger

Neck pain is so often a complaint for ourselves and those that have asked us to help them. And even if it’s not a complaint, tightness in the neck can play a huge role in headaches, migraines, TMJ, vertigo, tinnitus, shoulder and upper extremity issues, just to name a few. If the neck does not get addressed, many of these symptoms can become chronic in nature. It truly doesn’t matter how long the tightness has been there or how old a person is, the neck can always improve! In this practical class, Joe will explain the anatomy of the cervical region and the importance it has on structures near and far. You will learn how to safely palpate the neck and its musculature and perform specific challenge tests to determine exactly which tissue and which level needs to be treated first. When you treat the key area first, most if not all the other tightnesses simply go away. Attendees will learn the concepts of Muscle Energy Technique and Functional Technique, and then apply these techniques in order to restore normal muscle tension, movement and function. Joe will show you how to use the techniques as self-treatment, as well. Many different learning styles will be used to help participants gain more comfort and skill in treating neck dysfunction, including PowerPoint presentation, course manual, bone models, demonstration of techniques, patient histories and supervised, hands-on practice. You will find this class helpful whether you are a practicing massage therapist trying to help even more of your clients or would like real relief from your own migraines. No prerequisite required.
