Federation of Holitic Therapists logoSTRATFORD-UPON-AVON, England—Each year the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT) solicits nominations of federation members for excellence awards in various categories. This year they received substantially more entries than in previous years. In recognition of the many truly outstanding nominees, in addition to selecting winners in each category, the judges have awarded the accolades of “Highly Commended” or “Commended” to particularly deserving members and fellows who were shortlisted.

The 2015 FHT Excellence awards were presented at a special gala awards dinner on Friday, September 5, in Stratford-upon-Avon, U.K. Paul Lewis, massage therapist and skilled teacher of advanced techniques, was nominated for Excellence as a Training Provider. Much to his surprise, he received the accolade of “Highly Commended” for his contributions to the massage profession.

Lewis was unable to accept the award in person due to another engagement across the ocean. “I feel truly honored to be receiving this award and feel that as health professionals, together we can promote the profession and continue to educate the public on the importance of including complementary alternative practices in a collaborative approach to client centered care,” he said.

Lewis is a registered massage therapist and combined decongestive therapist who works in Toronto, Canada, in conjunction with doctors of chiropractic, medical doctors and in multi-disciplinary settings providing collaborative treatment within his scope of practice.

He sees patients with pain, discomfort and restricted range of motion resulting from surgical procedures such as mastectomy and hip or knee replacements, as well as with other soft tissue related issues. He recently spoke at Warwick University to second-year medical students about care for breast cancer patients, incorporating discussions on case presentation, pathology, treatment and outcomes, and introduced them to the important role complementary and alternative medicine can play in breast cancer care.
