In order to focus totally in the present moment, begin by allowing your body and mind to relax and be at ease.  Being present means you are completely focused on the needs of the client, the healing relationship and not on yourself.

Prior to beginning your session, take a moment to slowly and deeply inhale to your very core, and gradually exhale.  With each inhalation your body is recharging, while every exhalation releases your thoughts of the past and concerns of the future, so you can immerse yourself in the present completely. Consciously and mindfully release all thoughts of the past and all concerns about the future, dwelling totally in the present moment. As your thoughts flow through you, do not be critical or judgmental. Gently guide your mind to stay constantly focused in the present moment, resting perpetually on the crest of the ongoing wave of passing time, being distracted by neither the past nor the future.

If you continue to come back to your breath, which always occurs in the here and now, it draws you easily and comfortably into the present. In this way, without distraction, you allow yourself to enjoy and savor the centering energy that exists in the awareness of the present moment.
