Basketball legend will share wellness expertise and his experience with Human Touch massage chairs
Long Beach, CA – June 15, 2010 – Human Touch®, a U.S. market leader of innovative massage chairs, Perfect Chair® Recliners and other wellness solutions, is proud to welcome NBA Hall of Famer and legendary sports broadcaster Bill Walton to its wellness council.
Walton has faced a veritable lifetime of orthopedic issues from head to toe. A long-time sufferer of chronic back and foot pain, Walton says his Human Touch® massage chair is a regular and invaluable part of his constant efforts to relieve his pain, increase relaxation and achieve a healthier and more productive life.
The Human Touch® Wellness Council comprises a group of esteemed individuals, all who have agreed to share their expertise and personal experiences with consumers about how regular massage therapy, relaxation and other wellness practices can greatly improve their quality of life.
Wellness Council members range from professional athletes to doctors of chiropractic and massage therapists, such as PGA Golfer Tim Clark, former Olympian runner Jeff Galloway, Shawn Henry Dill, D.C., bodyworker and essential oils educator Julie Chertow and more.
“I have had 36 orthopedic operations”, Walton said. “I have two fused ankles, my knees, hands and wrists no longer work, and my spine is now fused. Other than that–I’m doing fine. Massage, rest and relaxation are all fundamental and critical components of my daily efforts to maintain a healthy quality of life. I use my Human Touch® massage chair as much as I can to ease my way back from the sore leg, back and neck muscles that hinder my relentless drive to remain mobile, active and productive. Having my Human Touch® massage chair available to me 24/7 allows me to enjoy a professional, therapeutic massage on my own schedule and in the comfort and privacy of my own home. It’s pretty much better than perfect. I can’t imagine where I would be without it.”
As a U.S. leading provider of massage chairs and wellness products for more than 30 years, Human Touch® is committed to increasing awareness among U.S. consumers about how regular massage therapy, proper relaxation and posture can become an integral tool to help them improve their overall wellness for a better quality of life.
“We are extremely excited to have Bill Walton join our Wellness Council,” said David Wood, CEO of Human Touch®. “Bill is a legendary figure in basketball and highly respected among millions for his athletic achievements and contributions to sports, business and community. His ability to enjoy a productive and active life, in spite of his own daily struggles with chronic pain, is truly admirable.”
William Theodore Walton, III (Bill) began playing basketball in fourth grade and asserted his dominance in high school where his team won the California Interscholastic Federation High School title two years in a row. He became the first and only high school player to ever make the USA Senior Men’s National Basketball Team and play in the World Championship and/or Olympics.
He enrolled at UCLA in 1970 where he played for the legendary John Wooden and was a member of two NCAA championship teams and a three-time recipient of the NCAA Player of the Year Award–1972, ’73 and ’74. At UCLA, Walton was a three-time All-America College Player and a scholar-athlete who also earned Academic All-America honors three years in a row.
In 1974, Walton was the number-one overall selection in the NBA Draft by the Portland Trailblazers, for whom he played five years, winning an NBA Championship in 1977. He went on to play for two more franchises, winning another championship in 1986 with the Boston Celtics, before ultimately having to stop playing due to several debilitating injuries.
Walton won numerous MVP awards during his illustrious career, and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1993. He was named one of the NBA’s 50 greatest players of all time in 1997.
Following his playing career, Walton began an equally successful broadcasting career in 1990. He has won a number of Emmy awards and, in 2009, Walton was named one of the top-50 sportscasters of all time by the American Sportscasters Association. Walton has been severely limited physically the past few years with unrelenting, excruciating and debilitating back pain.
Today, after major clean-out, reconstructive and fusion spine surgery, physical therapy and finding his Human Touch chair, Walton is climbing back into the game of life one more time.
