A founder of the Tennessee Massage Therapy Association has passed away.

Steve Harper was 69 when he succumbed to throat and larynx cancer on Sept. 29.

“He was instrumental in getting the regulation of massage in Tennessee,” said Ruth Scott, a massage therapist in Bruceton, Tennessee. “He could be called the ‘founding father of massage’ in Tennessee. He also started, taught [at] and owned the Bodyworks School of Massage in Jackson.

“He was an all-around good guy,” Scott added. “Several health issues plagued him in the last few years, but he never gave up.”

A tribute to Harper and information about his Oct. 12 memorial service are posted on the TMTA’s web site.
