Indiana SB500, which would have provided for licensure of the state’s massage therapists, did not get a committee hearing in May, and is therefore dead. Currently Indiana’s massage therapists may pursue voluntary certification.

The Indiana Chapter of the American Massage Therapy Association emailed an announcement about the bill’s demise.

In it, the chapter’s government relations chair, Jennie Irving, noted, “I understand that the frustration and concern regarding those non CMT’s offering ‘massage’ continues to grow. Write a letter to the State Cosmetology Board, your Legislator or report activity to the Attorney General’s office if appropriate.”
