The Indiana chapter of the American Massage Therapy Association has sent communication to the state’s massage therapists to encourage them to support SB500, which would provide for licensure of massage therapists there. Currently Indiana’s massage therapists may pursue voluntary certification.
SB500 reads: “Provides that an individual must be licensed by the state board of massage therapy to engage in the practice of massage therapy. (Under current law, massage therapists are certified by the board but certification is not required for the practice of massage therapy.) Prohibits local units of government from establishing or maintaining licensing requirements for massage therapy.”
The chapter has created a sample letter that massage therapists may send to the house committee, here: http://www.amtaindiana.org/news/20110331/sb500-assigned-to-house-committee/
