International Journal of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork Celebrates Five-Year Anniversary, MASSAGE MagazineEvanston, IL. The Massage Therapy Foundation (MTF) is proud to acknowledge the fifth anniversary of the International Journal of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (IJTMB): Research, Education and Practice this year.

IJTMB was conceived by former MTF trustee and emeritus founding executive editor, Glenn Hymel, Ed. D, and launched by the foundation in fall 2008. IJTMB is the only complimentary, peer-reviewed journal for massage therapy. It is currently led by Executive Editor Antony Porcino, Ph.D., and Editor-in-Chief Karen T. Boulanger, LMT, Ph.D.

The journal became indexed in PubMed in 2010. In the past five years, the IJTMB has housed a wide range of articles in all three section areas and has also included a variety of editorials and commentaries.

“Our profession is very fortunate to have free access to peer-reviewed massage therapy research information compliments of the Massage Therapy Foundation. The editorial board is composed of a group of dedicated scientists, most of whom are also massage therapists,” according to Boulanger. “We are committed to publishing high-quality research that helps massage therapists provide the best care possible for their clients, helps massage therapy educators improve education and helps the health care industry understand the contribution that massage therapy makes to enhance public health.”

MTF President Ruth Werner adds, “The IJTMB is a crown jewel in all the foundation’s programs. Achieving what it’s done in just five years is phenomenal, and I give credit to the talented editorial board and the real driving force behind the birth of the journal, Dr. Glenn Hymel. The archive that is being built now will be a treasure-trove for future massage therapists, and I am proud to have played a small role in this tremendous gift to the profession.”

Currently, IJTMB has more than 4,300 registered users, and those interested who have not yet signed up are encouraged to register to have free access to the knowledge that will help us build on the benefits that massage therapy provides to massage therapy recipients. If you are already a registered user, help celebrate the fifth anniversary of IJTMB by spreading the word about this beneficial journal. Written submissions to IJTMB are also highly encouraged.
