Cleveland, OH – The International Weightlifting Association (IWA) has launched its new online CEU course for massage therapists.
The new online course, Effective Strength Training, is the first online continuing education unit (CEU) program to help healthcare practitioners learn and apply the fundamentals of strength training in a clinical setting. The program took more than three years to develop and incorporate on the company’s website at www.iwacourses.com.
With the help of Douglas Brooks, M.S., a special 264-page textbook was written exclusively for IWA’s website. Practitioners can download the digital textbook for study in the privacy of their home or workplace while earning CEUs. The textbook can also be mailed for those who prefer a hard copy.
“What is unique about this online continuing education course is its convenience,” states John Norton, IAW’s president and founder. “With fewer people traveling these days, as well as the hassle, time and expense associated with it , developing an online course was the next obvious step in the evolution of IWA’s business plan,” he adds. In order to keep up with the ever-changing world of online continuing education, time flexibility is the key.
This state-of-the-art, virtual classroom provides healthcare practitioners with a wealth of information such as resistance training philosophy, the fundamentals of strength training in a clinical setting, program design, and resistance training guidelines. Photos and illustrations of more than 100 exercises are provided to ensure greater understanding of the biomechanics needed to teach resistance training to patients needing rehabilitative care. Although exercising goes beyond the realm of most massage therapy licenses, therapists can learn strength training exercises not only to improve their strength, but so they can explain it to their clients and patients.
Participants must pass an online test in order to verify their knowledge and understanding of the course content. Study hours and testing times vary, but on the average it takes most participants 10 hours to complete. A certificate of completion is generated via e-mail which students can present to their state licensing boards to satisfy the continuing education requirements needed to maintain their licenses.
Although CEUs vary by state, IWA’s website offers a handy look-up guide by state, profession and course to help individuals determine how many credit hours each of the eight courses has been awarded.
The International Weightlifting Association was formed in 1989 and continues to be one of the country’s foremo st CEU and CEC providers for fitness and healthcare professionals. For more information, visit www.iwacourses.com or call 1-800-WEIGHTS.
