Lighting in Your Massage Practice, MASSAGE MagazineLighting, whether in the form of natural light, a dimmer, candle or soft accent lights, can help set the mood for a relaxing massage session.

According to Janet M. D’Angelo in her book Spa Business Strategies: A Plan for Success, Second Edition, lighting is an important component of interior design that serves two major purposes: It enhances ambiance and supports operations.

In her book, she writes:

Light fixtures can provide just the right touch to spa décor, emphasizing period details or promoting a theme. For example, natural light can turn an otherwise claustrophobic environment into one that feels connected to nature no matter how small the window, an amenity that has been shown to have a soothing effect on clients.

Natural light also brings out the beauty in colors, textures and wall coverings and has the added benefit of conserving energy, another bonus for the ecologically conscious spa.
