Aunty Margaret Machado, who practiced, promoted and taught the ancient Hawaiian art of Lomilomi, died Dec. 28. She was 93.
Lomilomi massage, one part of a system of spirituality, exercise and nutrition that comprises Lomilomi, involves broad, sweeping, strokes often using the forearms.
According to an article in the Honolulu Observer, “She was said to be the first Hawaiian to teach the art of lomilomi to non-Hawaiians and the first lomilomi teacher certified by the state.”
