April 24, 2009 — The Malaysian Spa Festival at Thermae Bath Spa was officially opened this week to a backdrop of Tai Chi performance and Bamboo Tapping! Dato’ Mark Yeoh, President of YTL Hotels, the parent company of the award-winning Spa Village brand, and Henk Verschuur Managing Director of Thermae Bath Spa, were joined by guests and media to officially open the month long festival on Tuesday.
Dato’ Mark Yeoh was given the honour of marking the start of the festival in true Malaysian style with the striking of a traditional gong.
Guests were also treated to complimentary bamboo tapping, a traditional circulation boosting therapy, whilst enjoying a performance from local Tai Chi experts.
The month long spa festival brings therapists from YTL Hotels’ award-winning Spa Village brand to the UK to showcase a selection of authentic treatments as administered in luxury resorts such as private island Pangkor Laut Resort and east coast Malay hideaway Tanjong Jara Resort.
The Spa Village philosophy honours the healing cultures of every location in which each resides, thus preserving them for future generations. In this collaboration with Thermae Bath Spa, the ancient healing traditions from Malaysia’s rich multi-cultural heritage can now be experienced in Bath, which has a historical spa connection of its own.
Open to the public from 22 April until 17 May, a selection of five treatments and three spa packages include a unique ‘Chinese Pearl, Rice and Egg Undulation Facial’ and a traditional Campur Campur sensory massage. For gourmet lovers, Malay cuisine prepared by a chef from Pangkor Laut Resort’s new Feast Village will also be served for the duration of the festival in the Springs Restaurant.
Those inspired by the Spa Village treatments, will have the opportunity to win a seven-night spa holiday for two to Malaysia, spending two-nights at The Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur and five-nights at Pangkor Laut Resort, flying with Lufthansa by simply visiting spafestival.co.uk
