STUART, FL. – During the month of February, Massage & Fitness Professionals of the Treasure Coast will celebrate American Heart Month by focusing on matters of the heart. During the month, not only will Debbie Roberts and her staff celebrate Valentine’s Day and those inspiring individuals that epitomize a healthy lifestyle, the staff is dedicated to promoting a healthy diet, exercise and reducing stress.

Joanie Moore, a triathlon coach and athlete as well as a Massage & Fitness Professional of the Treasure Coast client, knows massage therapy benefits the heart, by affecting one’s cardiovascular system, autonomic nervous system (which controls heart rate, digestion, respiration rate, etc.) and even the endocrine system (glandular/hormones).

Moore has been working with Roberts for more than 30 years, and she states, “She (Roberts) keeps me active. There are numerous overuse issues I have experienced throughout the years and she has always been able to fix me. Most recently, I was one of the coaches for Team in Training up here in Stuart and we were training for the Disney marathon. If it was not for my weekly visits with Massage & Fitness Professionals of the Treasure Coast, I could never have been able to do all the training—let alone complete the event!”

Moore and the hundreds of other clients at Massage & Fitness Professionals of the Treasure Coast know massage can create tremendous beneficial changes in one’s body and blood pressure. In addition to the restorative and immediate effects of professional massage on blood pressure, massage can help reduce the effects of stress on the body. Roberts stresses that, “all too often, the daily stresses of our lives, and sometimes our diet (especially excessive amounts of caffeine), cause us to remain in the fight-or-flight state, which has a negative effect on our bodies including increased heart rate, increased blood pressure and increased levels of the stress hormone cortisol.”

Finally, Roberts and her staff is committed to helping clients understand that especially during American Heart Heart Month, they should be mindful in these stressful economic times that, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

Be proactive about your health. Eat right, move your body, do everything you can to keep stress at bay. Massage & Fitness Professionals of the Treasure Coast is proudly supporting American Heart Month, and collecting monetary donations for the organization during the month of February.
