A newspaper serving North Central Illinois told its readers about the health benefits of massage recently.

“There’s a medical practice that may soon become more commonplace in the Illinois Valley,” the article, titled “Massage more than relaxing,” stated. “Massage, once thought to be an act of luxurious pampering, has been shedding that and other stigma as its medical benefits become more realized.

“Throughout the country, more and more hospitals, nursing homes and other health care clinics are realizing the medical benefit of having a massage therapist on staff,” the article continued. “At Illinois Valley Community College, the massage therapy program has been turning out close to a dozen students annually.”
