National Holistic Institute student Frankie Menzel received the 2012 NHI/Biofreeze AMTA Convention Scholarship at the 2012 American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) national convention in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The recipient is chosen based on GPA, attendance percentage, an essay and letters of recommendation, according to Joe Bob Smith, strategic development manager of National Holistic Institute.

Menzel received a Massage Warehouse Ultimate Business Starter Package, a trip to the 2012 AMTA national convention, a one-year membership in AMTA, a $100 donation in his name from Performance Health to the Massage Therapy Foundation and a year’s supply of Biofreeze. Biofreeze is underwriting the scholarship.

The scholarship was founded by NHI in 2011 to honor longtime NHI teacher Melissa Wheeler, the 2010 AMTA Jerome Perlinsky Teacher of Year—who believed that attending professional conventions was instrumental in her success as a massage therapist and teacher, said Smith.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by people I look up to and have been mentoring me,” Menzel told MASSAGE Magazine.
