EveryBody Deserves a Massage Week is in full swing across the U.S., and massage therapists are coming up with a variety of ways to promote and donate massage therapy in their communities.
The week is sponsored by Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals to promote massage therapy to consumers while providing healthy touch to people who might not otherwise receive it. This year the event runs July 15–21.
In Northbridge, Massachusetts, massage therapists Robin Bachant-Allen and her husband, Ron Allen, are conducting a fundraiser for the Barton Center for Diabetes Education at Whitinsville Wellness Center and Spa, by offering massage sessions for a donation to the diabetes center, for a full week, reports the Northbridge Daily Voice newspaper. In Salisbury, North Carolina, The Salisbury Post newspaper reports, guests at the Rowan Helping Ministries homeless shelter are receiving seated massage from massage therapists Ricky Pate, Travis Allgood and Donna Ridenhour.
“‘This is basically something to give back, promote wellness and touch a segment of the population who can’t afford massage,'” Ridenhour was quoted as saying. “‘Everybody needs a massage, but everybody can’t afford one.'” Read the article here.
