The U.S. public is encouraged to provide written comments on new objectives proposed for the Healthy People 2020 campaign.

The purpose of the campaign is to provide 10-year national objectives for improving Americans’ health.

“For three decades, Healthy People has established benchmarks and monitored progress over time in order to encourage collaborations across communities and sectors, empower individuals toward making informed health decisions and measure the impact of prevention activities,” the campaign’s website noted.

During this round of public comment, Healthy People 2020 encourages input on proposed new objectives to be added to the following topic areas: 1) Educational and Community-Based Programs; and 2) Social Determinants of Health.

“You are also invited to suggest additional objectives for consideration that address critical public health issues within the existing 42 Healthy People 2020 Topic Areas,” noted the campaign’s website.

The campaign is conducted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The comment period ends at 5 p.m. EDT, Nov. 2.
