November is National Family Caregivers Month. Massage therapists can use this nationally designated month to inform the public about the benefits of massage to caregivers.

In 1994, the National Family Caregivers Association “launched the first ever celebration of family caregiving, declaring National Family Caregivers Week,” according to the association’s website. “Recognized by President Clinton when he signed the first proclamation in 1997, National Family Caregivers Month has been proclaimed by an American President annually ever since.”

One study of massage therapy for caregivers of terminally ill family members showed massage reduced physical and emotional stress, and reduced pain and insomnia.
