The benefits of a massage-therapy session, including relaxation; rest; stress relief; and lessening of tightness, aches and pains, can be especially beneficial to a woman going through menopause.
September is National Menopause Awareness Month. Massage therapists can take this opportunity to speak about and demonstrate massage therapy to this target clientele.
To dovetail with the month, a special editorial package is running in MASSAGE Magazine’s September issue, available in late August. The package includes the feature article “Massage and Menopause: Touch Helps Ease Women through this Life Transition,” and additional articles in print and online on “Symptoms of Menopause,” “Research Lends Support to Massage for Menopausal Women,” “Stages of Menopause,” “Massage for Menopause: Post-Session Hydration,” and “Natural Techniques to Address Menopause.”
The month is sponsored by the National Menopause Awareness Society.
“Congress declared this special designated month to draw attention to the large public health challenge that menopause brings—and to reinforce that women and their health care providers must have accurate, unbiased menopause-related information to make informed decisions that will lead to improved health and quality of life both around menopause and beyond,” according to the society’s website.
