The Massage Therapy Foundation (MTF) has announced the winners of the 2012 Practitioner Case Report Contest. This year’s grand prize Gold Award has been awarded to Emilie McKay of Ontario, Canada. Her winning case report was titled “Assessing the Effectiveness of Massage Therapy for Bilateral Cleft Lip Reconstruction Scars.” As the first place winner, McKay will receive a $2,500 cash award contingent upon undergoing the peer-review process with a scientific publication. She will also present her paper at the 2013 International Massage Therapy Research Conference (IMTRC) hosted by the Massage Therapy Foundation. The conference will take place in Boston from April 25 to 27, 2013. She and her mentor each receive a $1,000 stipend to be used toward travel to the conference.

An Honorable Mention was awarded to Fiona Leckenby of Nashville, Tennessee, for her case report titled “Eight Week Chair Massage Intervention for Client with Severe Atopic Dermatitis.”

The Massage Therapy Foundation has chosen to encourage the writing of case reports to provide an opportunity for massage therapists and bodyworkers to develop research skills and enhance their ability to provide knowledge-based massage to the public.
