Massage Therapy Students Awarded Grants at American Massage Conference, MASSAGE MagazineAkron, OH. Four massage therapy students received Helping Hands Gifts for Growth grants during Student Day at the American Massage Conference (AMC) in San Diego, California, on Sept. 13, 2013.

The grant program, developed by BIOTONE® and Biofreeze®, supports professional massage therapy students in their educational pursuits or endeavors to launch a massage therapy practice. ONE Concept, the conference organizer, partnered with Biofreeze and BIOTONE to promote the grant program during the conference.

MiraCosta College student Maria Caldwell, IPSB College student John Smith and National Holistic Institute students Heather Selby and Erika Mclellan were presented $500 Helping Hands grants by Jean Shea, founder and president of BIOTONE, and Marshall Dahneke, CEO of Performance Health.

“It was a pleasure to support the Helping Hands Gifts for Growth Grant Program at the ONE Concept American Massage, Chiropractic, Acupuncture and Spa Conference Student Day,” stated Scott Dartnall, president and CEO of ONE Concept. “The winning students were very excited as was everyone in attendance. We are grateful to Biofreeze and BIOTONE for their ongoing support of student programs and the massage therapy profession.”

Current massage therapy students can apply online for one of four $1,000 grants at This application requires a 100-word essay on “How as a massage therapist my helping hands will make a difference.” A team of industry representatives will review all submissions to choose the four winners. In addition to the students’ $1,000 grants, their schools will receive a $500 grant and a $500 product package. Applications must be received by Nov. 1, 2013. Winners will be notified by Dec. 1, 2013.
