A memorial service for massage-therapy pioneer and educator Irene Gauthier, founder of Irene’s Myomassology Institute in Southfield, Michigan, will be held tonight.

Gauthier was 90 when she passed away in October. She had begun studying massage in the 1950s, focusing on the specialty of Myomassology. She began teaching students in 1970 and opened her massage school in 1987.

She celebrated her 90th birthday in July.

The memorial will be held tonight, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m., at Shriners Silver Gardens, 24350 Southfield Rd., Southfield, Michigan.

Gauthier was a sponsor of Plan USA for more than 21 years, and her contributions have helped children all over the world.
