OAKBROOK TERRACE, Illinois (June 26, 2008) – The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) announces that Chief Operating Officer, Laura Culver Edgar, will assume the position of interim CEO, effective immediately. Officials from the organization assure that NCBTMB’s operations, programs and business will continue as normal.
“The current direction of the organization set the stage for this change,” said NCBTMB Chair Donna Feeley. “We have made substantial progress under the Board’s leadership in the past eighteen months. Our strategic plan is leading us in bold, visionary directions. This change will enable NCBTMB to better support all of our stakeholders in exciting new ways.”
“NCBTMB takes its mission – to define and advance the highest standards in the massage therapy and bodywork profession – very seriously,” she added. “We have an energized, national and state government relations effort, regional school outreach initiative, state disciplinary database pilot project and new Center of Excellence program. With these and other initiatives, we continue to foster the highest national credential and standards in the massage and bodywork field as a pathway to licensure and certification. Our dedication to uphold that standard of excellence is illustrative of our commitment to enhance the profession we all care so deeply about.”
The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork was established in 1992 as an independent, private, nonprofit organization fostering the highest standards of ethical and professional practice in the delivery of therapeutic massage and bodywork through a recognized credentialing program. NCBTMB examinations are currently accepted or recognized by statute or rule in 32 states and the District of Columbia as the highest national standard in massage and bodywork therapy. There are currently more than 90,000 professionals with NCBTMB certification. The NCBTMB credentialing program has been accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) since 1993 and NCBTMB is currently pursuing American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accreditation.
