When it comes to securing a Guinness World Record for massage, many have tried. Few have succeeded.

In world-record news, Massage Envy, a nationwide franchise business, announced on March 10 it had set an official world record for the most people massaged simultaneously in one location.

“The history-making event took place Oct. 25, 2009, in Rosslyn, Virginia, at the annual Marine Corps Marathon where therapists provided 167 grateful runners with massages at the same time,” a company press release noted. “In total, more than 5,000 massages were performed the day of the event.”

“This is a tremendous achievement for our company and a testament to our hard-working therapists,” said CG Funk, vice president of industry relations and product development at Massage Envy. “Massage therapy is not only important for athletes, but regular sessions can help poor circulation and ease any strains or pains you may experience from everyday activities.”
