When others might have focused on themselves, Colleen Lissy of North Irwin continued to give of her time.
“Her willingness to help others throughout her own hardship is what an outstanding volunteer is,” said Linda Varo, volunteer coordinator for Aseracare Hospice.
The Pittsburgh office of Aseracare Hospice presented Lissy with the Outstanding Volunteer of The Year Award in November. Lissy has been volunteering since 2000, mainly doing massage therapy.
“A simple touch can be a painful event for a terminal patient. Massage is so important in their care. “I’m honored that I can bring a moment of relief,” [Lissy] said.
