A certified massage therapist in Rockville will have to wait out the weekend before learning if she may resume her side business of massaging horses without risking her license to treat humans.
H. Mercedes Clemens’ attorney, Paul Sherman, said he had expected the Maryland Board of Chiropractic and Massage Therapy Examiners to lift its cease-and-desist order at its monthly meeting on Thursday. Instead, the board stated only that a decision on the matter would be “forthcoming.”
Sherman said he was later told that the board would issue a statement on Monday.
The board’s inaction on Thursday was surprising in light of a hearing last week before Montgomery County Circuit Judge David A. Boynton, at which the judge questioned whether the board has authority to regulate horse massage.
