A clinic at MetroHealth Medical Center is offering unconventional therapy for those who have found conventional medicine only goes so far.
MetroHealth began offering the massage treatment known as reiki about three years ago. A group of MetroHealth’s nurses created the clinic based on their interest in integrative therapy, which merges conventional medicine with other treatments. Reiki’s effectiveness remains scientifically unproven, but MetroHealth clients are happy and the clinic is close to capacity. Nearly a dozen people come to the center once a month to receive the therapy for relief from pain and anxiety.
Reiki practitioners believe they can tap into an unseen life-force energy that flows through their hands into their clients.
