On the island of Kauai, I loved working on the beach, looking at the surf and enjoying the sprinkles of raindrops while performing massage. Tourists were so open and less inhibited about receiving bodywork, especially lomi lomi. My office was in nature, so the real challenge was going back “inside” to work. On the island, practically everyone was a massage therapist. I had to be very innovative and accommodating to maintain a busy practice. I found myself practicing in a variety of places, such as the hospital, a spa and doing house calls. It made for an interesting array of clients and treatment-types one would come to expect.
